We completed a midsize renovation in 2024. We had never worked with a contractor before so at first like anyone we had a reservations.
When we met Maz, there was an immediate sense of trust, and clearly our instincts were correct. He is one of the classiest, intelligent and trustworthy contractors we could ever have imagined to work with. His expertise with his prior background as an engineer shined through. His design sense and ability to advocate for and work with his clients was on full display for the six months that we worked together. He was present. He was exactly as he said he would be. He was there checking on things. Day be day. Incredibly detail focus.
When you work with the contractor, you want them to be a perfectionist. You want to feel like they are coordinating the renovation for their own house. Maz is the consummate perfectionist. He looks after his clients. He worked incredibly well with our designer and he brought forth a fantastic team of subcontractors. Yet, he was clearly always on your side. A fierce negotiator who understood our budget and expectations. He just gets it. He always puts us first and understood us. He is a man of his word, and integrity.
When we reflect back on our experience together, it was nothing but positive. When I think about deliverables, I think about three things. Firstly, was he accurate and realistic with the timeframe he set forth? Secondly, were we able to stay within the budget we agreed to ex ante. Lastly, did the two of us enjoy the process and remain happy throughout? He clearly accomplished and three. We would never take on any work again without using Maz.
When I reflect on our first meeting, I remember something he said. He said “I will always be here to look after your house. I will get to know your house and I will always make sure my work stands to my word”. In the nearly two years since the job was completed, he continues to be there for us. More importantly, he frequently drops by for a coffee to catch up when he is in the area. A true friendship and bond was created.
